Human fat in cosmetic products, is it true?

Considerable concern in the news last week! There are supposedly people in Peru who have been murdered for human fat. This fat would then have been bought for use in cosmetic products in Europe. It’s not very nice to think that I could then be smearing that on my face each morning….

Is it possible?

The story that human fat is being used in cosmetics is very unrealistic. In the article ‘broodje smeeraap’ in de Telegraaf I explain why this is unfeasible. Briefly, there are two reasons: firstly, because it doesn’t work, and secondly, in terms of legislation, it is not possible.

Fortunately, I read this week that it is still unclear if it was indeed for human fat that the people were murdered (news story in de telegraaf), but I’ll leave it to the newspapers and other news sources for the precise details. What I can say is that the use of human fat for cosmetics, as the headline says, is ‘a load of nonsense’.
