About Jetske Ultee

My own product line!

It is probably quite clear from reading my blog that skincare is my passion:-). For years I have been searching for products that meet my requirements – without irritating substances and containing good active ingredients. It had proved to be a complex task and eventually led me to create my own products, exactly as I wanted them. These products, under the brand name Uncover Skincare, have recently become available to order online. My own product line! For this see www.uncover-skincare.nl!

Knowledge Sharing

For years I’ve been involved with research into cosmetics. I am convinced about the importance of good skincare, but shocked by the reality of the cosmetic world. In my blog I can share with you my knowledge about skincare.

Research Physician

There are many possibilities with skin and skincare. In my job as a research physician I get great pleasure out of helping people with their problems and queries. Often problems can be remedied with the use of the correct skincare products. There are some excellent products available on the market, that are beneficial to the skin. Unfortunately there are also many that are not!

My skin

My own skin is very sensitive and I’ve always needed to search carefully for good products, which don’t contain misleading claims of what they can do, and also ensure that they contain healthy ingredients. Astonishingly many skin complaints have a common underlying problem: bad cosmetic products and the misuse of products.

My own experiences and interest in healthy skin are my main reasons for choosing this type of work. I think people have the right to know more over their skin, and here I aim to help.

My training

I completed my PhD in Plastic Surgery in June 2010. My passion is the setting up and execution of scientific research in cosmetics and aesthetics. This suits my role as research physician and Head of the Skin Therapy Department at the Velthuis Clinic.

I said goodbye to my training in Plastic Surgery at the Erasmus MC in order to join the Velthuis Clinic. Although I found it very interesting work, the difficulty came with trying to combine it with a family of four children and a husband with a very busy job.

Research Physician and Head of Skin Therapy

Initially the setting up of the Skin Therapy Department at the Velthuis Clinic was the first and foremost part of my work. Trying to see the wood for the trees with the numerous different therapies available was a challenge in itself. Dr Velthuis and I have been continuously researching for some years to find new techniques in skin treatment ( such as laser treatment).

Skin problems

Even though there is so much that can be done for the skin with laser, light and peeling techniques, I realised that a common underlying problem existed for a large number of people. Surprisingly many problems with skin appear to be or are made worse by skincare products, or through misuse or use of bad cosmetic products. Symptoms of these are likely to be acne, rosacea, dry or oily skin and even ageing skin. For many sufferers a vast improvement is made when they stop using their old skin products and are introduced step by step into using a suitable product.

Knowledge of skin products.

My knowledge of skin products didn’t just come to me. I have been reading up on cosmetic science literature for the last few years with the main question : What has been proved and what hasn’t? I’ve visited international congresses, spoken with many well known dermatologists and read many books. In my mission to find out ‘ the truth about cosmetics ‘ I received one surprise after another. Given my medical and cosmetic background I realized some facts such as:

  • Claims from the cosmetic industry need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
  • Very expensive creams are not necessarily better than cheaper ones.
  • Concentrations of active ingredients are often on the low side.

For all that I was shocked at what I discovered. You can find out more in my blog.

Trusting in a skincare routine

In spite of everything I have not lost confidence in the beneficial effects of a good skincare product. Further still I am impressed by research results of the performance of certain cosmetic ingredients. Good skin products can benefit your skin in many ways;

  • they give the skin a fresh and healthy appearance,
  • they give the skin a more even tone,
  • they help to correct imperfections such as spots and other irregularities.

Good results

Although skincare products (with the exception of vitamin A acid which is only available on prescription ) cannot help with deeper wrinkles, a good result is definitely possible. There are ways in which fine lines can be reduced but more importantly, the reason for the appearance of wrinkles can often be overcome. I am convinced that a good skincare routine can make a difference.

The reason for beginning with this weblog is to personally let people know about the ‘pros and cons’ of skincare products. In other words, the ‘inconvenient truth’ about skincare!
